navigation software
Roam the world with confidence with your GPS
navigation software!
If someone mentioned GIS or GPS navigation software a couple of decades
ago, we would not have a clue of that it is or what it does. Today
however, these technologies have become a part of our everyday lives.
GIS, which stands for Geographic Information System and GPS, which
stands for Global Positioning System technology have materialized into
essential tools that many people use both professionally and in their
personal lives. These technologies have greatly improved the way we
navigate over land, water and in the air. The programs that these
technologies use for user interface are known as navigation software.
GPS navigation software has allowed us to utilize GPS receivers in a
number of ways and in many different situations. With this software
being customizable to suit different needs and professions, we can use
it when hiking through the woods, traveling in unknown areas, while out
at sea and more. The GPS receiver has a small antenna that receives
signals from the group of 24 satellites that make up the Global
Positioning System.
The software in the GPS unit takes the timing of signal reception from
at least 6 satellites at a time and then calculates its own position,
speed and elevation. From there, you can input information into the
receiver so that it will provide you with mapping directions to specific
areas, and advise you of any perilous areas to avoid. With other
compatible navigation software that is on the market today, you can also
create customized maps, waypoints and tracks.
