The Garmin eTrex Vista, a handheld GPS unit, delivers high-tech features
and high-end performance in an attractively priced, compact unit. A
powerful GPS receiver, the Garmin eTrex Vista combines a preloaded base
map of North and South America with a barometric altimeter and an
electronic compass for accurate navigation to within 3 meters of your
destination. Marine navigation aids are also built in.
In its sleek silver case, the Garmin eTrex Vista boasts 24mb of internal
memory capacity. This means you have plenty of space to download
additional maps from CD ROMs. With a battery life of 12 continuous
hours, the Vista is solid and reliable. The compass will provide
bearings while you're standing still and the altimeter will calculate
your altitude with unparalleled precision.
On the technical side, the 12 parallel channel GPS receiver continuously
communicates with up to 12 satellites to compute your position. The
Garmin eTrex Vista has built-in serial port. The compass is accurate to
within ±5 degrees and the altimeter provides current elevation data and
a variety of ascent or descent information like average, minimum and
maximum.
Accessories include a car cigarette lighter adapter, a PC interface
cable, external data cable and a USB-to-serial adapter. You can carry
your Vista in a handy holster, mount it in your car or on the handlebars
of your bike. There's even a belt clip and a special marine mount. Two
