Searching the GPS store for the right product for you

There are many different systems on sale in your local GPS store, be it online or off, and finding the perfect system for you requires that you know a little bit about what is actually on offer. Then you can make your way to your favorite GPS store and know that you are buying the system that will fulfill your expectations.

Firstly, be ware that there are GPS systems for your car, handheld and also PDA systems. In fact, many of the different items in the GPS store will not fit your needs at all, and it is best to know beforehand which kind you need.

For example, the smaller units in the GPS store are designed for people who have a map in their hand, and just need something to act as an alternative to the magnetic compass. These will have alarms for off path wandering and other neat little features, but do not have some of the more advanced mapping and location features of the bigger units.

Still in the handheld section of the GPS store, there are systems which have a map built in and offer all kinds of location features around it, but are no good for navigating in a moving vehicle. This is because, unless they are attached to a GPS, they tend to be silent, and therefore you need to keep looking at them in order to know where you are going.

Finally, the bigger units in the GPS store will tend to be the vehicle based ones, which will also be the most expensive. They can talk you, giving directions, have full color 3D map views and generally offer better features for the motorist.
