Garmin electronics, home of the GPS

Whatever else might come out of the Garmin electronics company, it will always be known amongst navigation system aficionados as the home of the GPS system. They have everything covered, from nautical navigation technologies though to the kind of small, portable units that are designed to be taken anywhere so that you will never have an excuse for being lost. In fact, Garmin electronics have become so good at miniaturizing their equipment that you will find system which have amazing features that you would expect on larger units.

For example, they use technology such as WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) which monitors the signal from land based sources and matches it against the signal that the system received from the satellites. In this way, the Garmin electronics GPS systems can increase their reliability at fixing a location in space down to within 3 meters.

In general, portable Garmin electronics systems will be lightweight and rugged, and they have even extended that to make maritime units that can float. In fact, the units are quickly becoming the navigation systems of choice for maritime and shipping applications the world over, thanks largely to their easy to use interface and wide number of maps and charts that can be uploaded into them.

To cap it all, Garmin electronics navigation systems are not as expensive as units which cost more, and their pricing is on a par with good quality electronic systems which use lesser technology. They also boast features like color screens and advanced back tracking features which you will only find on more expensive units.
