GPS ratings help make sense of it all
The navigation system market place can seem to be so packed with
excellent products that it seems hard to actually come to any conclusion
about which offers the best value for money, and so a system of GPS
ratings is needed to try and make sense of it all. Like any system of
measuring features against price, this will always be a very personal
thing, and so it is a good idea to try and establish what kind of GPS
ratings system you want to apply that will make sense for the
application you want it for.
For example, if you are looking for a system that is going to spend its
entire time sitting on your car dashboard, then the fact that the table
of GPS ratings comparing like products has a space for waterproofing is
not going to be of much use. So, it should receive an importance which
is less than, for example, the inclusion of a color screen, voice
prompting, and an accurate street plan.
In fact, when reading GPS ratings, you need to be aware that the
weighting system that the reviewer has applied might not match with your
needs at all, and so it is worth taking the time to recalculate the
final score, based on your own needs, weighting the results accordingly.
So, you might choose to weight the scores according to a system which
places GPS ratings such as price and portability above others like
screen size and map memory space, and end up with a result for a
navigation system which is vastly different from the opinion of the
reviewer.
