Garmin eTrex Vista
Hunt, trek and fish with the Garmin eTrex Vista
Like all the other machines in this new series of portable GPS systems,
the Garmin eTrex Vista comes in a discreet box measuring just 4 by 2
inches, and weighing in at a mere 5.3 ounces. Size, however, can be
deceptive, and while the Garmin eTrex Vista is at the top end of the
range, it is still within reach of the recreational sportsperson, hill
climber or avid walking enthusiast.
It takes advantage of the Wide Area Augmentation System which allows the
already accurate GPS system inside the Garmin eTrex Vista to become
accurate to within a staggering three meters. Add to this the 24
megabyte internal memory, and storage space for up to 1,000 waypoints,
and it is clear that this is a handheld GPS which stands above the
competition.
The Garmin eTrex Vista can also be connected to a PC, enabling maps to
be downloaded onto the system, which can be viewed on the 4 level grey
LCD screen which measures 2 by 1 inches, at a resolution of 288 by 160
pixels giving it a clarity that is usually associated with a more
powerful system.
Naturally, the Garmin eTrex Vista shares other features with its’
siblings in the range, such as being waterproof, having a user-friendly
interface, and a backlit display in case you are in need to help at
night. An added technological breakthrough in navigation techniques is
the advanced TracBack mode in which your logged path is reversed so that
you can find your way home even without referring to the map.
