Garmin Forerunner 201
Now runners can have a virtual personal trainer,
thanks to the Garmin Forerunner 201
The Garmin Forerunner 201 is aimed squarely at the fitness training
market, with its’ compact size, wristwatch style strap and range of
pacing and stopwatch options. Of course, coming from a range of products
that are produced by one of the leading GPS manufacturers, the Garmin
Forerunner 201 stands tall above the competition because, unlike a
regular stopwatch, it contains a GPS navigation system.
This means that, not only can the Garmin Forerunner 201 know exactly how
long you have been exercising, it can also tell you exactly how fast and
far you have traveled. This gives it a unique ability over other
systems, as it can be aware of whether you are behind or ahead of a pace
keeping virtual runner.
Naturally, the Garmin Forerunner 201 system also comes with the usual
bells and whistles that can be expected from a fully fledged stopwatch
and timing system, such as calories burned, lap times, distance and
splits, pace and distance whistles, as well as the unique features
offered by a GPS.
Using the built-in serial connection, the Garmin Forerunner 201 can also
exchange data with your PC, which means that not only can you generate a
set of waypoints which determine your performance after the fact, you
can also look up specific locations that you have marked whilst out
running on an electronic map.
The technology that drives the Garmin Forerunner also includes a
function to enable you to accurately retrace your steps so that you can
perform the reverse workout, to arrive back at your starting point.
