Compatible with most Garmin portable navigation systems, Garmin MapSource products provide the information which powers the top-notch navigation and plotting features found inside Garmin GPS products. Originally aimed at PC users wanting to augment the base map provided when they purchased their GPS, Gamin MapSource has become synonymous with the very best in trip planning and map browsing.

For those who have suitable devices, Garmin MapSource information, including any user entered details such as way points, routes and tracks can be downloaded onto their portable navigation units, providing a seamless navigation service which takes advantage of recent technological innovations.

This is achieved by putting the data, stored on the Garmin MapSource CD-ROM onto another form of removable media, such as a memory card, or downloading the data straight on to your navigation device.

The marine companion to the Garmin MapSource range is the BlueChart range which provide the same level of maritime chart information detail on a CD as is found on a regular paper version. The technology is essentially the same, allowing users of BlueChart compatible devices to take full advantage of the multifunctional nature of most Garmin devices.

Please note, however, that Garmin MapSource products do need to be unlocked before the data can be transferred to your portable GPS device, or the real time tracking function will not work. This only applies to owners of more than two devices, or those who wish to hold more than two areas on a device at any one time. Unlocking is entirely electronic, and prices vary with the size of area to be unlocked.
