Garmin 376c
One GPS unit for land and sea – the
Garmin 376c
If you own both a boat and a car and want GPS capability in
both, consider the Garmin 376c receiver. GPS stands for
Global Positioning System, a technology that allows you to
pinpoint your exact location anywhere on the planet to
within a few meters. There is a network of orbital
satellites that constantly broadcast signals to GPS-enabled
receivers. Once received, the signal is converted to map
coordinates and displayed on the unit’s screen. Depending on
the software used, receivers like the Garmin 376c are useful
on both land and sea.
On the water, you need vital information like storm tracks,
wave height and wind direction in addition to knowing your
location. Weather forecasts are also critical. The Garmin
376c can do all this and more. When offshore chart software
is enabled on the unit, you’ll always know the water depth
and will be able to steer clear of reefs and other submerged
hazards. With an additional subscription to marine weather
satellite forecasts, you’ll always have up-to-the-minute
data at hand. You can even access NEXRAD weather radar. An
optional sonar feature is also available – invaluable to
sport fishermen. Optional data cards preprogrammed with
BlueChart® or Fishing Hot Spots® detail are easy to acquire
and use.
On the land, you need clear driving directions and
information on points of interest like hotels, restaurants
and gas stations. With the land map software enabled on the
Garmin 376c, you can plot a route and receive turn-by-turn
directions to your destination. You can also enhance the
basemap detail on the receiver by downloading data from
optional MapSource DVDs or CDs to an optional data card. In
addition, you can subscribe to over 150 channels of
satellite broadcasts including music, news and talk beamed
to your car or boat.
The Garmin 376c gives you the best of both worlds in a
handy, compact and full-featured GPS receiver.
