Choosing from the range of car navigation systems
At first sight, this might seem like an easy proposition, after car
navigation systems are notoriously expensive and so you will just buy
the one that you can afford, right? In fact, the key thing to bear in
mind is that not all car navigation systems are created with the same
goals in mind, and while one kind might proved expensive, there is
plenty of choice on the market for those who are willing to take the
time to look around.
For example, in car navigation systems which are provided by the
manufacturer of the vehicle, or the radio, are traditionally very
expensive since they integrate with the radio or the dashboard in an
unobtrusive manner. This is fine, except for the fact that if you are
not buying a new car, or cannot afford this expensive option, you may be
dissuaded from making the purchase.
In fact, creating car navigation systems is as easy as adding a GPS
receiver and some clever software to a standards PDA or Pocket PC. If
you already own one, then you are halfway there, since the additional
expense is not normally greater than a new PDA. This might seem
expensive, but it is certainly cheaper than buying a handheld or
dedicated removable in car system.
On the other and, to get the best results it is usually a good idea to
opt for one of the removable car navigation systems which are appearing
on the market. These will have features such as voice prompting, making
for easy navigation, and the ability to recalculate your route if you
take a wrong turn.
