tracking software
The two basic types of
tracking software
Generally speaking there are two types of software which fall into this
category. The first type of tracking software is probably the most
common and refers to software used on a handheld computer such as a PDA
with a GPS antenna, to monitor progress along some predetermined route.
The second type of tracking software refers to software that is able to
track individual GPS units from a central point.
In fact, shipping companies can now purchase tracking software for use
with their radio GPS systems. This allows them to keep track of their
vessels no matter where they are, and be sure that they are all heading
in the appropriate direction and on time.
At the consumer end of the market, tracking software is great for use in
the outdoors environment, as it enables you to do two very important
things. The first is that it enables you to plan your route in the
comfort of your own home, taking all the time you need to find a good
route. Then, once in the field, the software can enable you to keep a
good eye on your progress as well as whether you are still heading along
the predetermined path.
The tracking software provided for PDAs is generally better than that
built in to handheld GPS systems, as it takes advantage of the superior
processing power that they offer.
