PDA GPSNever
get lost with a PDA GPS
If you own a PDA but also want to be able to take advantage of the leaps
in navigation technology and software that has become available in
recent years, then a PDA GPS system is for you. The idea is that the PDA
becomes augmented with a GPS receiver and software which will enable the
user to take advantage of the power of the PDA to navigate effectively.
In fact, most PDA GPS systems come bundled with plenty of software which
will get you going right out of the box, wherever you might be.
GPS is a technology that is based on being able to track up to 12
satellites at the same time, and feed that information into an algorithm
that enables it to work out where the unit is by triangulation. In a
typical PDA GPS system, the processing power of the PDA is used rather
than fancy electronics, which makes the whole venture much more cost
effective.
Other portable GPS systems also need to provide a screen, some kind of
internal operating system to manage the display of the map and position
data, as well as a way to connect the system to an external source. The
PDA GPS system does away with all these requirements – rather they are
already present on the PDA itself, and so the manufacturer need only
provide the software.
This also means that the PDA GPS is much more powerful in terms of
features for navigation, route finding and correcting. Add to this the
fact that you can use the internal memory to store notes whilst you go,
and you have a winning combination.
