The many advantages of the laptop GPS
At first sight, a portable GPS system might seem to be very attractive.
More so than having to haul around a combination laptop GPS system,
surely? In fact, there are many advantages of using a full laptop GPS
system, many of which take advantage of the fact that the laptop is a
full computer.
There are systems which work with PDAs and Windows mobile computers
which use a similar concept to the one that drives the concept of the
laptop GPS. This is the system that can take advantage of the processing
power of the host to augment its own electronics and take away the
complexities of actually triangulating the position, which enables the
manufacturers to reduce the price of the unit.
It is far cheaper for them to write a piece of software and then use the
power of the laptop to find the devices position on a map without using
electronics. All that needs to happen is that the laptop GPS combination
communicate effectively, and with the advent of Bluetooth, this can even
be done wirelessly.
The size of the laptop screen is also one of the big advantages of the
laptop GPS system. It has a definition and clarity which is far beyond
that which can be put in most hand held systems, which usually end up
being almost as expensive as the two machines put together for the same
features.
And then there are all the possibilities to combine the laptop GPS
software with all your usual applications and devices, such as printers,
route planners and even cartography software deigned to help you get the
most out of your GPS system.
